When and how did you start your business?
I started 4SYT Industries to address the growing need for reliable, high-quality facility services in the government space. With a background in operations and project management, I saw an opportunity to build a company that delivers dependable solutions while meeting strict compliance standards. What began as a small venture has grown into a trusted partner for government and commercial clients alike.
What challenges did you face when starting your business?
I faced quite a few challenges when starting 4SYT Industries. Access to funding was limited, and I had to learn how to navigate the complex world of government contracting on my own. As a new, small, woman- and minority-owned business, it was tough to build credibility and earn trust in a competitive space. There were moments of inconsistent pay and a lot of trial and error. But through persistence, strategic networking, and a commitment to learning everything I could, I pushed through and built a solid foundation for the business.
What has been the key to your business's success?
Aligning with the partners and having a shared vision. Giving your all day in and day out, and outworking everyone else! Providing top level service and earning the trust of our Clients and traveling Nurses, Technologists, and Therapists.
What important lessons have you learned that can help others succeed in business?
I've learned that patience, preparation, and persistence are everything. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and you have to stay ready even when nothing seems to be moving. I’ve faced setbacks, but I never stopped pushing forward. Improving my systems and building the right relationships have made all the difference.
What common mistakes should they be aware of and avoid?
Managing cash flow is critical, and reading the fine print can save you from big mistakes. It’s easy to overcommit or underbid just to win a contract—but that can backfire. I also found that not having solid systems in place early on can slow you down or cost you later.
What else would you like the NaVOBA community to know about you and your business?
I’m committed to helping other veteran-, woman-, and minority-owned businesses grow in the government contracting space. I believe in collaboration over competition and often mentor new business owners on staying compliant, bidding effectively, and scaling the right way. My goal is to build a strong network of small businesses that succeed together and make a lasting impact.
